What conditions do eye doctors treat?
There are two main types of eye doctors - Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
Optometrists are healthcare professionals, not medical doctors. They provide regular vision care such as conducting eye exams, treatment, and managing vision changes. They can also detect certain eye disorders and prescribe corrective lenses.
Ophthalmologists, on the other hand, are medical doctors. They diagnose and treat eye diseases, perform eye surgeries for conditions such as cataracts, prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct vision impairments.
